Finding an Editor

Below are several links, which we have provided to assist you in finding an editor. When looking for an editor, talk to several. Finding an editor is like finding a partner—you have to be compatible. Have a short conversation with each one. Ask about their experience and if they specialize in a certain genre. Discuss your book and see if they feel comfortable with it. Discuss pricing. Keep in mind that it's your creative effort you're having edited. Be flexible within your budget. Get a written quote before committing to giving them the job. Honor your commitments. Lastly, have a thick skin. Do not take their comments personally. You are paying them to give you their best recommendations. If they were to do any less, they wouldn't be doing their job. If disagreements do occur, discuss them openly and calmly. You are both working to the same end. Be pleasant and professional and expect no less in return.
